Dining Out

Okay... I know that this is the category that should really be reduced/cut-out when you are on a financial diet. What can I say?!

I'm lazy...

I like eating out...

I don't know. I love to cook, but since my son was born, I just can't seem to find the time or energy. We still eat out A LOT. Last month we spent $604.22 on food outside the home. This included work lunches, snacks, coffee, ice cream, you name it. Historically we were averaging about $871 per month dining out.

Our most expensive dinner was $51 at Meriwether's for a date night. We also had three dinners at Justa Pasta ($23-$32 per dinner) and four dinners at Laughing Planet(average $20 per visit for three). What about you? How do you find the time to coordinate meals and cook? What do you make? Do you eat out? How frequently? Please tell.

We average around $550/month on Dining. In Quicken, my Dining sub categories are;Joint (going out as a family), Friends (eating out with friends - we did this because we feel that going out with our friends is a good use of our Dining money), and then a category for myself and my husband to see how we spend it on ourselves.

We usually spend the most on "Joint" and the least on "Friends". We would much rather that be reversed. Hey, we should go out to dinner!

I have the same problem. It's so hard rustle up some vittles for the crew after a long day of work. my dream is to create a group of mama cooks who would each make one big meal and share - it could be weekly, monthly whatever. it's got to be cheaper than eating out

We spend around $150-$200 monthly on eating out. We have date night every other week, pizza night every Friday, and we each have an "allowance" for lunches out with friends. I usually have something in the pantry or freezer for nights I just can't muster the energy to cook (happens a lot more in the summer). In the winter, my slow cooker is my best friend in the kitchen. I can throw a meal together in the morning when I'm still fresh, and by the time dinnertime rolls around (and I'm wiped from a day with the boys), I have the boys set the table, throw together a salad, and dinner's ready!
